Thank a Single Mother

Ann Coulter, conservative author, spoke these words on "The View" when she was asked about her new liberal-smashing book, "Guilty: Liberal Victims and their Assault on America."
Coulter, a woman often known as the Paris Hilton of politics who will say something for shock value or for higher book sales has done it again. She has taken the antiquated notion that women cannot successfully raise children on their own and gone even further to blame single mothers for most of society's problems.
A chapter in her new book titled "Victim of a Crime: Thank a Single Mother" is entirely devoted to bashing single mothers and pointing the finger at them as the reason for crime and the degeneration of society.
She presents a wealth of statistics that suggest that the children of single mothers are doomed to become burdens to society.
"Single motherhood is like a farm for future criminals," said Coulter on "The View." She then continued to list statistics that scapegoats single mothers as the reason for our country's ills.
"80% of prison inmates were raised by single mothers…this didn't happen by accident. The illegitimacy rate alone has gone up 300% since 1970," said Coulter, who is neither married nor a mother.
Moderator Whoopi Goldberg, who is a single mother herself, countered Coulter by simply stating, "What is your issue with single mothers?"
As the daughter of a single mother, I must ask the same question. Ann Coulter is a person who, on principle, I generally ignore because it's better not to give people that close-minded any attention. But this new assertion of hers made me pause. Not because it was made by Coulter, but because it seems to represent the mentality of those who prefer to pinpoint the most disadvantaged segments of society as scapegoats.
"Countless studies on the subject make clear: look at almost any societal problem and you'll find it is really a problem of single mothers," reads the last sentence of "Victim of a Crime: Thank a Single Mother."

Most not all black women are hard to deal with. And it is not a fault of their own. Most Blacks are raised by a single mother and it is becuase they were brought up by a single mother that there was no male role model to become familar with. (Continued…)

Funny, I didn't know you could get pregnant by "chance". But hey, you learn something new everyday. Obviously the author is personally offended by Coulter's book because she was raised by a single mother. (Continued…)
