Dear Reader,
This year has been a success for Black Voices. We met our goal of bringing you more stories addressing highly sensitive issues affecting the African American community at USC and beyond.
From controversial sports news, such as stories about Micheal Vick, to political stories about the historical 2008 presidential race and the Jena 6, Black Voices has covered it all.
We even shed light on the prejudice experienced on our own campus through interactions with Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, Katharine Harrington.
Such stories have sparked tense discussions between students, faculty and staff.
These discussions are confirmation that we are serving our purpose. We were created, not to cause controversy, but to represent our people's voice.
Sometimes that voice has a tragic secret to tell. At other times it is frustrated, ecstatic or upset. But no matter how different the emotion, every story represents variations of that same voice.
As the academic year comes to an end, we take pride in the work performed thusfar and look forward to representing the voice of our people in the year ahead.
To USC's class of 2008, well wishes on your journey ahead. For the rest of us, let us continue to Fight On, steady reaching for yet another year of success.
I look forward to serving as Editor-in-Chief for a second term. To my graduating staff members, you will be dearly missed. However, I am confident that the new editorial staff will be just as dedicated to making Black Voices an exceptional publication.
BV will return in the fall but until then...
Have a great summer!
