This month marks the 82nd year in which black history has been recognized by Americans as "Black History Month."

However, Black History Month has been criticized for being condensed into one month. Black history is to be celebrated, in my opinion, 365 days, not 28.

It's interesting that we often treat God the way we treat black history. We recognize and remember when we're told to; black history in February and God in church on Sunday.

Only praising God on Sundays or when He causes miracles to happen won't suffice. Hebrews 13:15 says we are to "offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually."

Praising God is one of the best ways to express our thanks for His goodness and blessings. Our praise should be continual. Many Christians, including myself, take God for granted.

He is our provider, yet we seldom thank Him for the little things. We need to remember that He takes care of all of our wants and needs. He wakes us up every morning, not our alarm clock. He is responsible for our safety, not the police.

Yet the great thing about God is that even when we forget about Him, He never forgets about us. Through the bustle of daily life, we must remember to give thanks to God. To recognize God daily means reading your Bible as often as you can. A Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to a person who isn't.

We must also spend time in prayer daily. God wants us to talk to Him and we have to understand that when we call Him, He will never press the ignore button. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

To become better Christians, we cannot limit our praise. The average Christian only seeks to get an escape ticket from hell. So be above average-do what God has called you to do. God gave us life as a gift and what we do during our lifetime is, in turn, our gift to Him.

Spread the Gospel. Put God first in everything you do. Thank Him everyday for the blessings he has bestowed upon you. Above all, let's not wait until a miracle happens or until church on Sunday to praise a God who is worthy of it everyday.
