USC's homecoming theme this year was, "Dam the Beaver," with events that took place beginning on October 28 and ending with the big game on November 2.
Homecoming week began with a wacky competition at McCarthy Quad on Monday, a cheer and step competition at Tommy Trojan on Tuesday and the Trojan Marching Band campus parade on Wednesday.
The week continued on Thursday with a lawn/lobby display, a homecoming rally at the Galen Center followed by a concert featuring hip-hop artist Talib Kweli. on Friday was the first annual Battle of Troy: Step, Stroll, and Salute Exhibition.
All of these events were in anticipation for Saturday when the USC Trojans vs. the Oregon State University Beavers football game took place.
Prior to the game were tailgates held by the Black Alumni Association, Kappa Alpha Psi and Alpha Phi Alpha. After the game some attended the Trojan Apocalypse after party hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha and Omega Phi Beta.
At the homecoming concert, Kweli put on a great show as he performed old and new songs and brought emerging artists on stage including comedian/actor DeRay Davis who appeared in "Barbershop" and "Barbershop 2". Davis surprised the crowd when he freestyled with Kweli.
The Battle of Troy was hosted by Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc.
The event helped unify the black and Latino Greek community as well as the USC community. Fraternities and sororities from across the nation came to step, stroll, salute and support one another.
The fun continued through Saturday afternoon as alumni gathered at the BAA tailgate and undergraduate students ate and danced at the other tailgates on campus. It brought out old and new faces as alumni from across the nation returned to enjoy all the festivities.
As the big game approached, students feared for the worse with two losses already in the season against Stanford University and the University of Oregon. Even more, USC faced the team to which it first lost during the 2006-2007 football season: Oregon State.
