With the start of the 2007-2008 school year, many seniors find themselves quickly approaching the "real world" of 9-5 p.m. jobs and paying mortgages and saying goodbye to the stoop, refund checks and late nights at Leavey Library. While many people are ready to graduate and face adulthood head on, for me it is bittersweet.

I left the comforts of home in Atlanta to come to college to grow not only as a student, but also as an individual. I still remember moving into Flour Tower not knowing anyone. Not knowing what to expect. Not knowing if I was even going to fit in, but then I realized that college is a part of my life where it is okay not to know what is going to happen next. That is what makes these four years so special.

Many people come into college with their mind made up of what they want to do for the rest of their lives, while most of us change majors, minors and even transfer colleges. I came to USC as a print journalism major who did not really like kids and now I plan on getting my Masters in Education, becoming a teacher, and (in the late future) having a family.

College does not only force you to learn about yourself on a professional and academic level, but on a personal level as well. Think about it-as a freshman, what did you want from life and what do you want from life now? If nothing has changed over the years, then you are one of the lucky ones that did not have to deal with re-evaluating your future plans every other month, like me.

I know that over the years, whether in college or not, people change their minds about their goals for the future, but when will you ever be in an environment that encourages it?

While in college we are able to change our majors, take random classes that range from hip-hop culture to religion, and be around a population of diverse people who we can learn from.

Although, while in college we complain about homework, unfair grading policies, and obnoxious roommates, seniors should take this year to reflect on the things we have learned from our professors, peers, and experiences. Take time to mend friendships and get your GPAs right, because before you know it we will all be getting ready to turn our tassel and enter the "real world."

To my class of 2008, this is it so let's make the best of it and make this a year to remember!
