shine

can you see that part of me that life taught me to hide?
lately just your presence has been allowing me to shine
brilliance rupturing through the cracks, every crevice of my mind
so lonely i used to be, walking a path undefined

cause

long ago my world became too real so fast
glassy-eyed innocence, not long did it last
a child in years but such a man in my mind
discerning of human behavior, some say a gift from the divine

but

a gift only appreciated in due time
when precocious seeds did sprout, i soon did find
how a gift not nurtured turns a mind volatile
how a gift not nurtured turns a mind volatile

so

alone i sat grindin to grasp the gravity of this gift
open and timeless, my mind did sift
through all that i was am and will be
and soon enough peace did find me

though

only for a moment, cause that's how it be
accept the seasons of life, the rain and the breeze
perfect happiness is not the promise i've found
but a path to solace by way of rocky ground

where i saw you standing
eyes aflame

where you called me
by my only name

how i gave you
what i didn't think i had

how you changed me
i think i found who i am

can you see that part of me that life taught me to hide?
that's just fine cause i'm livin in my shine
