The Black Woman (Engineer)
I mean no disrespect to any race or major out there, but I must say I love my Black Women Engineers. Black men, do not run away from our Black Sisters anymore. Women of all races are beautiful, wonderful, and intelligent, but our Black Women are there night and day to support us and have not left us. Do not let a woman with a strong head on her shoulders, an opinion, and her own support system detour you from getting to know her. Our women have progressed and when they can help us, do not be prideful and reject their helping hand because it is one of the only ones you have in the world.
I have spent a many a night up late with these women in computer labs, study halls, study lounges at dorms, living rooms, and the list goes on and I just want to say thank you! I remember leaving high school and entering the USC realm and having two illustrious women at my side in the same major. Even though we drifted into different fields of engineering, we have stood by one another and been those supporting rocks for one another. You were the shoulder for my head to rest on after it was thrust against the wall numerous times of not understanding "basic concepts".
Thank you for dragging me out the bed and forcing me to get ready for the next day and complete each assignment as it was given, because we all run low at times and need that inspiration from someone else. I know that without you walking by my side and not behind me, I would not be ready to cross that stage in May. It's as they say, "Beside each great man, is a great woman."
I have made it up the executive ladder of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and I know my presidential term has been such a success, because of the black woman engineer. She has been there as a leader for me in the past and present and is willing to hear my complaints and rants and still try provide me with fun opportunities to relieve my stress. These women have aided me in making some key decisions that one can not always make alone, because my eyes have only seen situations from one perspective. These women have held positions of power themselves and I need my other black males to understand, do not, I repeat do not be intimidated by these women or think it is taking away from your role as man in society to be with one.
In today's world we need Black women making these power plays and opening doors not only for themselves or women, but for you and future generations. They also bring other facets to a relationship, such as life experiences to draw from, additional income so you both may live well, and some calm and understanding to your life.
Brothers do not ignore these women, because they go out just like everyone else and are able to network with the best of the best of them. So the next time you see a Black Woman Engineer or a Black Woman period, stop thinking about her being a gold digger or what you can do to her. Think of how you can work as a cohesive team and lay a great foundation together for a family and future generations.
Lastly, I would like to thank you to four special Black Women Engineers: Renee Hood, Robyn Jackson, Syreeta Thomas, and Rema Morgan. Ladies I would not have made it through my college career and reached the plateaus I have without you.

As a Black Woman Enginer, I am moved by this author's opinion. I am currently in college, and I can attest to the fact that it is quite difficult to shake the image that some men have of me--images that have been formed not because they have ever talked to me, but because they have developed their own image of Black women.
