Their relationship was like a car accident on the freeway; although it was difficult to look at sometimes, people could not keep their eyes off of it. Whether it was following the couple's drug addition, the allegations of domestic abuse or their everyday life on "Being Bobby Brown," society has been drawn to the couple's outrageous acts. But is the couple we have all grown to love and laugh at coming to an end?

Whitney filed papers in the Orange County Superior Court Sept. 8, 2006 requesting a legal separation from her husband of 14 years. She listed the reason for the separation as irreconcilable differences. She did not use their last names on the paperwork but instead used their middle names hoping to distract the media from their martial problems, but she signed the paperwork as Whitney Houston, which blew her cover and caused a media frenzy.

Sources tell Us Magazine that Whitney came to the conclusion that her rocky marriage - complete with infidelity and dwindling finances - was finally over after a dramatic intervention, led by Clive Davis, to end her drug addiction. "Getting sober has given her the clarity to move on from him," a source close to Whitney tells Us Magazine.

Bobby's attorney told the Associated Press that, "It is a legal separation. It is not a divorce or a divorce petition," but Whitney seems to think differently. "The filing is technically a legal separation" said Whitney representative Nancy Seltzer to PEOPLE, "But she wants a divorce. That is Whitney's intent." Divorce proceedings are expected to begin later in October.

Whitney asked the court that she be granted custody of their child Bobbi Kristina, and that Bobby only be allowed visitation rights.

Before the recent news of a separation of the duo, in January 2006, a report surfaced that Bobby planned to divorce Whitney and had been partying with several women at a casino. He eventually told PEOPLE the rumors were untrue.

Another rumor that has surfaced is that Bobby has been dating Karrine "Superhead" Steffans and has been living in her Los Angeles home. The "Video Vixen" admits in a recent interview with the New York Daily News that they have spent some time together and that it is a "really tricky situation" since "there's a wife and children involved."

The couple did separate for a period of time in 1997, but their marriage endured, despite rumors and speculation. Their relationship has always been able to with stand public opinion.
